The course spans 7 days (day 1 is EFAW) and is divided into four key units:

 

Working in the Private Security Industry:

• Effective communication and customer service skills.
   

Working as a Door Supervisor:

• Behavioural standards and professional conduct.

• Civil and criminal law pertinent to security roles.

• Search procedures and protocols.

• Arrest procedures and legal considerations.

• Drug awareness and handling.

• Incident recording and crime scene preservation.

• Licensing laws and regulations.

• Managing queues and crowd control.

• Assisting vulnerable individuals.
   

Conflict Management:

• Strategies to prevent and defuse conflicts.

• Risk assessment in conflict situations.

• Problem-solving techniques for conflict resolution.

• Application of communication skills to de-escalate situations.

 

Physical Intervention Skills:

• Introduction to physical intervention and associated legalities.

• Risks and safety considerations.

• Practical disengagement and escorting techniques.

• Ensuring safety during physical interventions.

 

Assessment:

Participants are evaluated through a combination of multiple-choice examinations and practical assessments, ensuring both theoretical understanding and practical proficiency.

 

Certification and Licensing:

Upon successful completion of the course and assessments, candidates can apply for the SIA Door Supervisor Licence, which is valid for three years. This licence authorises individuals to work in various security roles, including positions in licensed venues, events, and retail security.
